How to Open a Self-Started Practice Group

Do you want to practice Sun Do and share this practice with your community, but have a hard time to do so since you don’t have a center or a teacher nearby?

Well, start your own practice group. Here is how you can do it:

1. You don’t need to be an expert or master of any kind. Your sincere desire to improve your health and to make yourself better along with your devotion to consistent, regular practice is all you need.

2. Sign into the Sun Do meetup (www.yoga.meetup.com/589), visit one of the nearby Sun Do centers, or attend one of the Sun Do retreats until you become familiar with the beginning level of Sun Do practice.

3. Contact one of the centers and get self-practice videos and/or tapes.

4. Find available space for regular practice gathering such as community facilities, recreation centers, local libraries, schools, colleges, parks, churches, temples or even your house.

5. Look for like-minded people eager to practice Sun Do and improve their health.

6. Be prepared to be a leader of a group; get tips from your mentor instructor or master about how to prepare and lead classes.

7. Invite an instructor or master occasionally; visit one of the centers occasionally; attend retreats occasionally; try to keep up with other Sun Do centers in practice.

8. Practice regularly at least 3 times a week for solid progress. Encourage members to practice at home also.

9. Advertise - send advertisements to local media (ask for free event listings); post flyers on community bulletin boards, send announcement to health related organizations (e.g., local hospitals, cancer associations, heart associations, etc.) (Ask to be included in their newsletters), place flyers in local hot spots (e.g., organic grocery stores, restaurants, spas, coffee shops, gyms); send e-mails to your friends.

10. Obtain official promotions for the members and yourself - once you and your members have practiced long enough for the promotion to a higher level, prepare an official promotion. This will encourage you and your members to continue practicing and will be a good chance to check on your progress.
